MillionTreesNYC Community Tree Giveaway
10am-12pm
In cooperation with the New York Restoration Project and MillionTreesNYC, Brooklyn Bridge Park is pleased to host a Community Tree Giveaway! On May 12th, New York City residents can come to Pier 6 to pick up a free tree and learn how to plant and care for them.
The online reservation system is now closed. A limited amount of trees will be available on a frist-come, first-served basis until supplies run out. Please note that trees cannot be planted on rooftops, terraces, or in city parks and only one tree can be adopted per address. Simple tree planting and care instructions will come with your tree. All you need is a place to plant, a shovel, and access to water. You will be required to fill out a tree adoption agreement to adopt your tree. If you are not within walking distance of the park, consider bringing a vehicle to transport your tree to its destination.
MillionTreesNYC, one of the 132 PlaNYC initiatives, is a citywide, public-private program with an ambitious goal: to plant and care for one million new trees across the City's five boroughs over the next decade. By planting one million trees, New York City can increase its urban forest—our most valuable environmental asset made up of street trees, park trees, and trees on public, private and commercial land—by an astounding 20%, while achieving the many quality-of-life benefits that come with planting trees.
