Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy
Fun Fact
The East River is not a river, and its name did not come from its location east of Manhattan. Technically, it is a tidal strait, a channel connecting two seawater bodies, Upper New York Bay and Long Island Sound. The name came because American colonists used it to travel east.

Summer Programming Internships

The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy (www.brooklynbridgepark.org) is seeking interns for the summer of 2010. A non-profit organization, the Conservancy has worked for twenty years to ensure the creation, adequate funding, proper maintenance, public support, and citizen enjoyment of Brooklyn Bridge Park through partnership with the public sector, development of programming, and active promotion of the needs of the park and its constituents. Since 2000, more than half of a million visitors have enjoyed the Conservancy’s free, public programs in the beginnings of Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Ideal applicants understand tight deadlines, are able to work independently or with groups, can lead small projects, and are comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously.  The successful applicant will understand our mission quickly, understand the position within the rest of the organization, and be confident in expressing views at weekly staff meetings.  This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience by working at a small but fast-paced office where interns can expect to acquire practical knowledge about event management and production, public affairs, and public space management.

- Maintain databases, provide general administrative support of staff, and conduct research for events and Conservancy operations
- Work extensively in the park, interacting with park staff and volunteers

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to use the Internet for research and communication
