Fun Fact
In 1642, Cornelius Dircksen, a local farmer, started the first ferry between Peck Slip in Manhattan and what is now the corner of Front and Fulton Street. Passengers would call Dircksen out of his fields with a horn to ferry them across the river.

The Floating Pool at Brooklyn Bridge Park Beach

What a summer!

After a fantastic nine weeks of operations, the Floating Pool at Brooklyn Bridge Park Beach has closed for the summer.

The pool and beach attracted over 71,000 guests from all five boroughs of New York City and from as far away as Japan and Finland. We hope you made it down to the site of the future Brooklyn Bridge Park to take a swim and play on the beach as well.

The New York City Parks Department look forward to welcoming the floating pool to its new home this summer in Barretto Point Park, a five acre waterfront park in the Hunts Point area of the Bronx.  It is scheduled to open on Friday, June 27. For more information, see www.nycgovparks.org

The Floating Pool at Brooklyn Bridge Park Beach opened summer 2007 under the direction of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy in partnership with the pool’s creator, the Neptune Foundation, and is sponsored by The State of New York, through the Empire State Development Corporation, and the City of New York. Critical funding has been provided by New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Councilmember David Yassky and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. Shuttle operations are provided by the Downtown Brooklyn Waterfront Local Development Corporation with funding by Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez. Thank you to our operating partners American Leisure, MetroSoccer, Rice, and Equinox Fitness.
