In 1866 ice floes severely clogged the East River for weeks on end, preventing ferry use and travel, and fueled public demand for a bridge...leading to the start of construction in 1869 of the Brooklyn Bridge.

http://www.brooklynbridgeparknyc.org/uploads/images/promos/7e473216-aa9e-4318-9bad-bbdfe9684943-picture-014.jpgThe New York City Department of Environmental Protection is partnering with City agencies and other local organizations to help New Yorkers stay hydrated and healthy this summer by setting up NYC Water-On-the-Go fountains at public plazas, greenmarkets and parks throughout the city - including Pier 6 every other Sunday from July 11 to Labor Day weekend.
