In 1866 ice floes severely clogged the East River for weeks on end, preventing ferry use and travel, and fueled public demand for a bridge...leading to the start of construction in 1869 of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Living On The Edge

Look for and learn about the special intertidal plants and animals that call the shores of Brooklyn Bridge Park home.

For all programs near the water please wear shoes or sandals suitable for walking on a rocky beach, and that you don't mind getting wet. All children must be accomplanied by an adult. Suggested ages 5-15. FREE!

Living On The Edge is presented by the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy in partnership with the Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation.

Lead support for educational programming has been made available by Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez of the 12th Congressional District through a grant with the Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention. Additional funding has been provided by TD Charitable Foundation and Con Edison.
