Brooklyn Bridge Park Launches Bluebell Photo Contest
Brooklyn Bridge Park (BBP) is pleased to announce the launch of its Bluebell Photo Contest. Thousands of Spanish Bluebells (Hyacinthoides hispanica) are starting to bloom at the park. Brooklyn Bridge Park invites everyone to submit photos of this striking scene in celebration of spring’s arrival.
In December 2011, BBP planted over 8,000 Spanish Bluebell bulbs on Pier 1, Pier 6 and Main Street sections of the park [See Bluebell location map, attached]. The bulbs have revealed their thin leaves and will be followed by slender, foot-long flower stems containing 12 to 15 Spanish Bluebell flowers. With thousands of flowers in full-bloom, this is a sight you will not want to miss.
Regina Myer, President of Brooklyn Bridge Park, said “This is the inaugural season of Bluebells at Brooklyn Bridge Park and we are thrilled to celebrate their arrival with a photo contest that will capture their beauty with the involvement of our park visitors.”
Brooklyn Bridge Park invites visitors to take photographs of the Bluebells, select your best images, and upload up to three entries to our SubMishMash webpage: http://brooklynbridgepark.submishmash.com/submit.
All photos will be reviewed by an esteemed jury—Sam Barzilay (Co-Owner of United Photo Industries Gallery), Etienne Frossard (Freelance Photographer), Brent Heath (Co-Owner of Brent and Becky’s Bulbs), Rebecca McMackin (Brooklyn Bridge Park Horticulturalist), and Julienne Schaer (Freelance Photographer). The jury will select the top three entries.
Three runners-up will also be selected—these photographs will be voted on by our Facebook fans through an online poll, ultimately resulting in a “Park Fan Favorite.” The top three entries and Park Fan Favorite will be publicly announced on Thursday, May 24th. Each contest winner will receive a prize and prominent placement of their Bluebell photo on the official park website and social media outlets!
Photo Contest Rules: All photographs must be submitted by noon on May 16, 2012 as a JPG, TIFF, GIF, or PNG file of at least 1,000 pixels. Entries must include your name, email address, and phone number with the submission. By submitting photographs to the Bluebell Photo Contest, you agree to give BBP non-exclusive rights to publish and reproduce the submitted photographs on our website, in marketing and media projects, and publication in perpetuity.
