Thank you for your interest in the Brooklyn Bridge Park. While the full-time staff remains small, there are occasional vacancies. Internship opportunities for college or graduate school students are available.

When positions become available, the positions will be advertised below, in addition to other places. Position: Custodian

Working collaboratively with other team members, the custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of Brooklyn Bridge Park commensurate with established organizational mission, values, and standards.

Responsibilities

* Act in a general custodial capacity throughout the park including emptying trash/recycling cans, picking up any errant trash, maintaining the cleanliness of restrooms and surfaces; work with the M&O team to perform all snow removal, etc.;
* Provide support to other members of the Brooklyn Bridge Park operations staff on a variety of tasks from maintenance work to gardening;
* Report graffiti and any damaged or broken park features to supervisor;
* Report any rule enforcement needs to the Park Enforcement Police (PEP) and park supervision;
* Provide support with the set-up and breakdown of public programs and events;
* Provide positive customer service to park visitors including answering questions and conveying park information;
* Perform other duties as required in the scope of the job and as designated by Operations Management.

Qualifications

* Previous experience in a facility maintenance and/or park-setting;
* Hardworking, energetic, self-motivated, and dedicated to the details;
* Strong communication skills and basic computer knowledge
* Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed;
* Comfortable working independently or with a team and outside in a park-setting.
* Valid NYS Driver License

* Reports To: Operations Manager
* Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
* Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, 40 hour per week, non-exempt position. Staff members holding this position should expect to be available for work Monday – Sunday, 6AM – 1AM and during other periods as assigned by Operations Management.

Horticulture Supervisor

Working collaboratively with other team members, the Hort Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily horticultural management of Brooklyn Bridge Park, commensurate with established organizational mission, values, and standards.

Responsibilities

* With the Director of Horticulture, oversee and assign the daily tasks of gardening staff
* Caring for thousands of newly planted trees, shrubs, perennials, and grasses
* Planting and transplanting herbaceous plants and small trees
* Understory tree and shrub pruning and maintenance
* Integrated Pest Management
* Mowing and string trimming
* Maintenance of all essential equipment
* Weeding, brush clearing, and mulching
* Debris and trash removal
* Provide help with seasonal tasks, including snow removal;
* Composting and compost facility maintenance
* Research, data collection, and horticultural database maintenance
* Interacting with park patrons in a professional manner as a representative of BBP
* Leading volunteer groups and training long-term Zone Volunteers
* Conducting educational workshops and tours for the public
* Provide support to other members of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Operations Staff on a variety of tasks from maintenance work to gardening;
* Provide positive customer service to park visitors including answering questions and conveying park information;
* Perform other duties as required in the scope of the job and as designated by Operations Management.

Qualifications

* Two or more years of horticulture experience or degree in horticulture and/or related field
* Experience with various landscape maintenance equipment
* Knowledge of plant material, including turf
* Knowledge of plant diseases and pests, as well as IPM strategies
* Strong weed identification and management skills
* Familiarity with irrigation systems
* Ability to perform heavy, physical labor (lift 40 lbs) on a daily basis in all weather conditions
* Previous experience in a facility maintenance and/or park setting;

Maintenance Technician

Working collaboratively with other team members, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for contributing to the general upkeep of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s many complex systems, commensurate with established organizational mission, values, and standards.

Responsibilities
* Contribute to the ongoing operation and preventative maintenance of all working systems and assets under the jurisdiction of Brooklyn Bridge Park;
* Provide emergency response to numerous park-wide elements including mechanical, electrical, plumbing and irrigation equipment;
* Coordinate with outside contracted specialists to perform tasks, adjustments, and repairs;
* Participate in seasonal maintenance activities including snow removal, lawn mowing/detailing and water start-up/winterization;
* Collaborate with co-workers to maintain a proper inventory of Maintenance-related supplies, materials, and equipment;
* Follow through on daily work orders, document progress via regular reporting, and complete tasks in an efficient and timely manner;
* Provide positive customer service to park visitors including answering questions and conveying park information;
* Perform other duties as required in the scope of the job and as designated by Operations Management.

Qualifications

* Previous experience in a facility maintenance and/or park-setting;
* Hardworking, energetic, self-motivated, and dedicated to the details;
* Basic knowledge and understanding of mechanical, electric, and plumbing systems;
* Strong communication skills and basic computer knowledge;
* Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed;
* Comfortable working independently or with a team and outside in a park-setting;
* Valid NYS Driver License.

* Reports To: Chief of Turf and Trade Services
* Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, 40 hour per week, non-exempt position. Staff members holding this position should expect to be available for work Monday – Sunday, 6AM – 1AM and during other periods as assigned by Operations Management.

Supervisor

Working collaboratively with other team members, the Supervisor is responsible for daily oversight of the operation and cleanliness of Brooklyn Bridge Park commensurate with established organizational mission, values, and standards.

Responsibilities

* Provide oversight for the ongoing cleanliness and ensure that Brooklyn Bridge Park is maintained at the highest standards;
* Direct the DOE Fund Trainees and support the BBP Custodians with the completion of their duties including emptying refuse cans, picking up any errant trash, maintaining the cleanliness of restrooms and surfaces;
* Provide support to other members of the Brooklyn Bridge Park operations staff on a variety of tasks from maintenance work to gardening;
* Provide help with seasonal tasks, including snow removal;
* Report graffiti and any damaged or broken park features using BBP’s reporting procedures;
* Report any rule enforcement needs to the Park Enforcement Police (PEP) and Operations Management;
* Provide support with the set-up and breakdown of public programs and events;
* Provide positive customer service to park visitors including answering questions and conveying park information;
* Perform other duties as required in the scope of the job and as designated by Operations Management.

* Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, 40 hour per week, non-exempt position. Staff members holding this position should expect to be available for work Monday – Sunday, 6AM – 1AM and during other periods as assigned by Operations Management.
