Thank you for your interest in the Brooklyn Bridge Park. While the full-time staff remains small, there are occasional vacancies. Internship opportunities for college or graduate school students are available.

When positions become available, the positions will be advertised below, in addition to other places. The Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation (BBP), a not for profit corporation, is responsible for the design, construction and operation of Brooklyn Bridge Park, an 85 acre, 1.3 mile, world-class park that stretches along the Brooklyn waterfront from Atlantic Avenue to Jay Street, north of the Manhattan Bridge. Adding much-needed open space for Brooklyn and New York City residents, Brooklyn Bridge Park contributes to the extraordinary revitalization of the waterfront in the New York Harbor, serving as a bridge from the commercial uses of previous centuries to the recreational uses of the future. Construction of the park is ongoing, and BBP operates areas of the park as they open to the public, while continuing to construct the remaining portions of the park design. www.brooklynbridgepark.org

Seasonal Gardener

Working collaboratively with other team members, the Seasonal Gardener is responsible for daily horticultural management of of Brooklyn Bridge Park, commensurate with established organizational mission, values, and standards. All beds, trees, and lawns are managed organically, with an emphasis on ecology. This position reports to the Horticulture Supervisors and the Director of Horticulture.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting Gardeners with the daily tasks of managing BBP’s planted areas
  • Caring for thousands of newly planted trees, shrubs, perennials, and grasses
  • Planting and transplanting herbaceous plants and small trees
  • Understory tree and shrub pruning and maintenance
  • Integrated Pest Management
  • Mowing and string trimming
  • Maintenance of all essential equipment
  • Weeding, brush clearing, and mulching
  • Debris and trash removal
  • Composting and compost facility maintenance
  • Research, data collection, and horticultural database maintenance
  • Interacting with park patrons in a professional manner as a representative of BBP
  • Leading volunteer groups and training long-term Zone Volunteers
  • Conducting educational workshops and tours for the public
  • Provide support to other members of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Operations Staff on a variety of tasks from maintenance work to gardening
  • Perform other duties as required in the scope of the job and as designated by Operations Management

Qualifications:

  • One or more years of horticulture experience or degree in horticulture and/or related field
  • Experience with various landscape maintenance equipment
  • Knowledge of plant material, including turf
  • Knowledge of plant diseases and pests, as well as IPM strategies
  • Strong weed identification and management skills
  • Familiarity with irrigation systems
  • Ability to perform heavy, physical labor (lift 40 lbs) on a daily basis in all weather conditions
  • Previous experience in a facility maintenance and/or park setting;
  • Hardworking, energetic, self-motivated, and dedicated to the details;
  • Strong communication skills and basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed;
  • Comfortable working independently or with a team and outside in a park-setting.
  • Valid NYS Driver License

This is a full-time, 40 hour per week, non-exempt position. Staff members holding this position should expect to be available for work one weekend day.

Integrated Pest Management Gardener

Working collaboratively with other team members, the Integrated Pest Management Gardener is responsible for pest and disease management of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s plants, commensurate with established organizational mission, values, and standards. This position reports to the Horticulture Supervisors and the Director of Horticulture.

  • Researching, tracking, scouting and treating all park pests and diseases
  • Ordering and applying IPM material
  • Caring for thousands of newly planted trees, shrubs, perennials, and grasses
  • Maintenance of all essential equipment
  • General gardening tasks
  • Debris and trash removal
  • Composting and compost facility maintenance
  • Research, data collection, and horticultural database maintenance
  • Interacting with park patrons in a professional manner as a representative of BBP

Paralegal

The Paralegal will report to and work closely with the General Counsel of BBP. Working collaboratively with other critical Park functions in the operations, capital, real estate and finance groups, the Paralegal will assume both general and ongoing project-based responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and assemble licenses, requests for proposals, leases, and contracts
  • Prepare for Board of Director and Committee meetings, including assembly and distribution of BOD materials
  • Provide information and documentation as requested by governmental officials, Board members and senior staff
  • Respond to Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) Requests
  • Oversee contract administration and local law compliance responsibilities, including procurement record maintenance and assisting staff with procurements needs
  • Ensure compliance with City and State reporting requirements
  • Review and track receipts of insurance certificates and other required deliverables from contract parties, tenants and permittees. Organize and maintain legal files
  • Maintain corporate records and Board of Director resolutions and minutes

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with strong academic background in paralegal studies from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience, demonstrating increasing responsibilities as a corporate, not-for-profit or government organization or law firm
  • Experience with contracts, real estate and/or construction related transactional matters
  • Positive approach, willingness to learn, can-do attitude, sense of humor and grace under pressure
  • Comfortable working in a small organization, including performing a wide variety of functions on an as-needed basis
  • Proficient in Word, Outlook and Excel
