Thank you for your interest in the Brooklyn Bridge Park. While the full-time staff remains small, there are occasional vacancies. Internship opportunities for college or graduate school students are available.

When positions become available, the positions will be advertised below, in addition to other places. Seasonal Gardener

Working collaboratively with other team members, the Gardener is responsible for daily horticultural management of of Brooklyn Bridge Park, commensurate with established organizational mission, values, and standards.

Responsibilities

* Caring for thousands of newly planted trees, shrubs, perennials, and grasses
* Planting and transplanting herbaceous plants and small trees
*Understory tree and shrub pruning and maintenance
* Integrated Pest Management
* Mowing and string trimming
* Maintenance of all essential equipment
* Weeding, brush clearing, and mulching
* Debris and trash removal
* Composting and compost facility maintenance
* Helping Hort Staff with their tasks
* Research, data collection, and horticultural database maintenance
* Interacting with park patrons in a professional manner as a representative of BBP
* Leading volunteer groups and training long-term Zone Volunteers
* Conducting educational workshops and tours for the public
* Provide support to other members of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Operations Staff on a variety of tasks from maintenance work to gardening
* Perform other duties as required in the scope of the job and as designated by Operations Management.

Qualifications

* One or more years of horticulture experience or degree in horticulture and/or related field
* Experience with various landscape maintenance equipment
* Knowledge of plant material, including turf
* Knowledge of plant diseases and pests, as well as IPM strategies
* Strong weed identification and management skills
* Familiarity with irrigation systems
* Ability to perform heavy, physical labor (lift 40 lbs) on a daily basis in all weather conditions
* Previous experience in a facility maintenance and/or park setting
* Hardworking, energetic, self-motivated, and dedicated to the details
* Strong communication skills and basic computer knowledge
* Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed
* Comfortable working independently or with a team and outside in a park-setting
* Valid NYS Driver License

This position reports to the Director of Horticulture.

This is a full-time, 40 hour per week, non-exempt position. Staff members holding this position should expect to be available for work one weekend day.

Accounting/Finance Intern

The internship program will provide the student with relevant skills in a variety of Accounting functions via on-the-job.

Responsibilities

* Record Retention – Assist with preparing annual Vendor folders
* Record Retention – Oversee Accounts Payable’s filing, scanning and organization of records
* Disbursement process – Attaching checks/wire confirmation to invoices
* Support Accounts Payable team with invoice vouching and payment inquiries
* Work with the Finance team on projects on a as needed basis

Qualifications

* A full time student in an Associate’s degree program; majoring in Accounting or Finance
* Organized with great attention to detail
* Ability to multi-task and excellent communication skills
* A high level of integrity, accuracy, dependability and confidentiality
* Available for two days a week (BBP is flexible and can work with individual’s school schedules)

Capital Project Manager

Working closely with the VP of Capital Projects, the Capital Project Manager actively participates in oversight of construction management of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s capital projects. This is a unique opportunity to be a key part of the construction and operation of a world-class, innovative, and transformational public space. The Capital Project Manager will work with an interdisciplinary team comprised of BBP’s staff, owner’s representatives and construction managers, to shepherd capital projects through all stages of development. The Capital Project Manager will manage independent projects as well as assisting the VP of Capital Projects. The Capital Projects Team coordinates and communicates with internal staff and external stakeholders creating project descriptions and presentation material for funding opportunities and community outreach.

Responsibilities

* Provide support to the Capital Projects Team in all phases of capital projects from preconstruction, design, permitting, and construction through to close-out
* Manage, monitor and update capital project budgets and schedules
* Collaborate with capital projects team of staff, consultants, and landscape architects to deliver a high quality public landscape
* Manage funding requests, construction invoices and disbursements from the City of New York and other sources
* Work with VP of Capital Projects, VP of Strategic Partnerships and other key members of BBP team to develop strategies for project coordination and public outreach including developing presentations and presentation materials
* Perform other job related task as assigned by the VP of Capital Projects

Qualifications

* A successful candidate will be highly organized, focused, and detail oriented. At least 2 years of relevant experience with high-quality, large scale capital projects in New York City or other urban environments
* Degree in construction management, landscape architecture, architecture or urban planning or equivalent experience with capital construction is strongly encouraged
* Knowledge and understanding of construction documents, contracts, and scheduling
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to synthesize complex issues and present them clearly
* Familiarity with government procurement and contracting
* Impeccable attention to detail
* Relevant experience in project management for public agency, architecture/engineering firm, private developer, construction management, or non-profit organization
* Proficiency with MS Project, Excel, Word. Adobe Acrobat and Illustrator a plus
* Valid driver’s license

This position reports to the Vice President of Capital Operations.

This is a full-time exempt position.

Capital Operations Intern

The Capital Intern at Brooklyn Bridge Park will assist the Capital Projects team on a variety of tasks related to the park’s construction and design. The intern will contribute to ongoing site planning and project management, including small construction projects, public outreach, communications regarding in-progress and upcoming construction projects, and internal file-keeping and plan organization.

Brooklyn Bridge Park seeks a graduate or undergraduate candidate in construction management, architecture, landscape architecture, urban design or related fields. We are seeking candidates who possess solid writing skills, research acumen, communications abilities, ability to read design plans and use graphic programs, and familiarity with construction project management. Candidates should be available to work up to 25 hours per week. A stipend is available for the internship.

Turf Seasonal

Working collaboratively with other team members, the Turf Seasonal is responsible for daily turf management of Brooklyn Bridge Park, commensurate with established organizational mission, values, and standards.

Responsibilities

* Caring for 13 acres of organically maintained turf
* Mowing, string trimming, aerating, dethatching, fertilizing, top dressing, weeding, reseeding and otherwise managing turf
* Integrated Pest Management
* Maintenance of all lawncare and irrigation equipment
* Work with Gardeners to assure proper landscape irrigation
* Soil biology, nutrient, contaminant, compaction and moisture testing and tracking
* Provide support to other members of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Operations Staff on a variety of tasks from maintenance work to gardening
* Perform other duties as required in the scope of the job and as designated by Operations Management

Qualifications

* One or more years of turf care experience or a degree in turf care from an accredited university
* Knowledge of grass species, pathogens, and fertilization requirements
* Irrigation systems knowledge
* Knowledge of organic turfcare practices a plus
* Strong weed identification and management skills
* Experience with various landscape maintenance equipment
* Ability to perform heavy, physical labor (lift 40 lbs) on a daily basis in all weather conditions
* Ability to work independently and with others
* Previous experience in a facility maintenance and/or park setting a plus

Qualifications

* A degree in Turf Care from an accredited university
* Minimum three years’ experience managing turf
* Minimum one year experience working with irrigation
* Knowledge of grass species, pathogens, and fertilization requirements
* Enthusiastic about, knowledgeable of, and willing to experiment with cutting edge organic turf care strategies
* Irrigation systems knowledge
* Strong weed identification and management skills
* Ability to perform heavy, physical labor (lift 40 lbs) on a daily basis in all weather conditions
* Ability to work independently and with others

Maintenance Technician

Working collaboratively with other team members, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for contributing to the general upkeep of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s many complex systems, commensurate with established organizational mission, values, and standards.

Responsibilities

* Contribute to the ongoing operation and preventative maintenance of all working systems and assets under the jurisdiction of Brooklyn Bridge Park
* Provide emergency response to numerous park-wide elements including mechanical, electrical, plumbing and irrigation equipment
* Coordinate with outside contracted specialists to perform tasks, adjustments, and repairs
* Participate in seasonal maintenance activities including snow removal, lawn mowing/detailing and water start-up/winterization
* Collaborate with co-workers to maintain a proper inventory of Maintenance-related supplies, materials, and equipment
* Follow through on daily work orders, document progress via regular reporting, and complete tasks in an efficient and timely manner
* Provide positive customer service to park visitors including answering questions and conveying park information
* Perform other duties as required in the scope of the job and as designated by Operations Management

Qualifications

* Previous experience in a facility maintenance and/or park setting
* Hardworking, energetic, self-motivated, and dedicated to the details
* Basic knowledge and understanding of mechanical, electric, and plumbing systems
* Strong communication skills and basic computer knowledge
* Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed
* Comfortable working independently or with a team and outside in a park-setting
* Valid NYS Driver License

This position reports to the Chief of Turf and Trade Services.

This is a full-time, 40 hour per week, non-exempt position. Staff members holding this position should expect to be available for work Monday – Sunday, 6AM – 1AM and during other periods as assigned by Operations Management.
