Conservancy Announces New Board Member Sophie Lippincott Ferrer

December 14, 2016

BROOKLYN, December 13, 2016—The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy (Conservancy) is pleased to announce the election of Sophie Lippincott Ferrer to the organization’s Board of Directors. The election took place at the Conservancy’s December 13 Board meeting.

“We are excited to welcome Sophie to our board,” said Mark Baker, Conservancy board chairman. “Her impressive career in the public and private sectors, and her dedication to education will make her a valuable asset to the Conservancy and Brooklyn Bridge Park.”

Ferrer is a senior consultant at Education First where she supports state and district education agencies and foundations on strategies that improve teaching and learning, particularly for low-income and minority students.

She focused her career on education policy after volunteering for a large, failing school in the Bronx. This experience inspired Ferrer to work in both the public and private sectors, including the New York City Department of Education, where she informed the design of the city’s teacher effectiveness system and oversaw professional development and technology in over 100 schools; the Parthenon Group, where she advised districts, states and foundations on strategic planning and performance management projects; and Standard & Poor’s School Evaluation Services Group, where she developed data-analysis tools for district superintendents and parents.

Ferrer holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Princeton University and a MBA from Harvard Business School. She is also a graduate of The Broad Residency in Urban Education Leadership, and is on the board of directors at PAVE, a charter management organization that prepares pre-kindergarten to 8th grade students to thrive in competitive high schools and four-year colleges.

She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two sons.

“I am thrilled to join the Board of Directors, and I am especially impressed by the Conservancy’s Environmental Education Center, which has served over 12,000 visitors since its opening last year,” said Ferrer. “I look forward to supporting this important work in the years to come.”
