Brooklyn, NY – The Cliffs Climbing + Fitness, which operates New York City’s largest indoor rock climbing gym, The Cliffs at Long Island City, and Brooklyn Bridge Park (BBP) are excited to announce DUMBO Boulders Powered by The Cliffs. The newly constructed outdoor climbing walls are located under the Manhattan Bridge at the Main Street section of the Park and will be North America’s largest outdoor bouldering facility.
DUMBO Boulders will open in spring 2016 and welcome climbers of all abilities with routes ranging from beginner to advanced. The Cliffs will manage the new facility, bringing its expertise in operating premium climbing facilities to DUMBO. This collaboration between The Cliffs and BBP will add another dynamic element to this vibrant neighborhood and provide unique access to a sport not typically available in urban communities. Day passes will be $9, and DUMBO Boulders will also offer a substantial amount of free programming for afterschool programs and school field trips.

Park designers Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc. collaborated with climbing wall specialists Walltopia to design DUMBO Boulders. The bouldering walls were first rendered as a digital 3D model, then fabricated in individual sections from fiberglass using full-scale molds. Walltopia then constructed the supporting framework and pieced the walls together on site. Compacted rubber mulch provides a soft surface for landings.
