We can’t wait for the opening of Pier 3 this summer. This exciting moment will mark the completion of the final Pier in Brooklyn Bridge Park, bringing the project to 90% complete, and adding five acres of green space for everyone to enjoy!
The new Pier will feature a large central lawn, a whimsical labyrinth garden made up of hedges of varying sizes, and a multipurpose hardscape for events.
One of the areas we are most excited for is the exploratory labyrinth. The labyrinth will include seating like you’ve never seen before, interactive features including a massive echo game and walk-in kaleidoscope, and historic elements salvaged from the Park.
Here’s a look at the Pier 3 progress and some of the awesome features you can look forward to later this year!
The Pier 3 sign was installed. Similar to the other pier signs in the Park, the letters were salvaged from the original pier sheds from when the Port Authority occupied the site over 30 years ago. Fun fact: The font used for BBP’s logo was inspired by the original signs.
Look at all that green space! Over an acre of sod was recently installed. The perimeter of the lawn will eventually be planted with groves of trees and shrubs to provide protection from the wind and sun.
Gunter Beltzig Seating: A seating enclave that will be landscaped around.
Echo Game: Find a friend, speak into the cone and listen to the echo. The further the sound travels, the more it changes. The sound also varies depending on where you speak into the cone.
Walk-in Kaleidoscope: Step in to get an all-round view of yourself, mirrored multiple times.
