Join TIDES (Teens Interested In and Dedicated to Environmental Stewardship) and meet other teens from across the city! This opportunity brings students together to complete weekly community service projects that focus on ecology, conservation, and sustainability. TIDES is perfect for students who have an existing or budding interest in the environment, looking for new experiences and are ready to learn new skills. No experience in stewardship or environmental projects is needed to apply!
TIDES is open to high school students ages 14-18. The program takes place over 8-10 consecutive weeks in Brooklyn Bridge Park’s unique waterfront environment.

The majority of sessions will take place in-person, outside in Brooklyn Bridge Park, weather permitting. Orientations and the last day may be virtual.
How many sessions of TIDES are there per year?
We offer TIDES in the Spring (April-June) and the Fall (September-November). Applications will open a month before the start date.
I am in 8th grade but 14 years old, can I still apply?Unfortunately, no. Participants must be 14 years old by the start date of the program and currently in high school.
Will I receive Community Service hours for this program?Yes, all students will receive a letter of community service reflective of the number of hours they completed at the end of the program. Letters can be used for school, jobs, college applications, etc.
I have never volunteered before, or participated in an environmental stewardship program. Should I still apply?Yes! TIDES is a great introduction to environmental stewardship and volunteering. We encourage those with a variety of interests (not just environmental sciences) to apply.
Are there other ways to get involved in the park after TIDES?
For TIDES Alumni, we offer a summer session for any past participants to return to volunteer in the park.
We are excited to offer TIDES Apprenticeship (Spring, Fall) and a paid TIDES Internship (Spring, Summer, Fall) for TIDES alumni who have completed both programs.
What is TIDES Apprenticeship/Internship?
TIDES Apprenticeship gives TIDES alumni the opportunity to return to the park and assist with public programming, using the knowledge and skills they gained from TIDES.
TIDES Internship is offered for students who have participated in TIDES Apprenticeship. Interns will assist with public programming, work at the Environmental Education Center, and work on individual projects. This is a paid Internship (stipend).
Can I apply to the TIDES Apprenticeship/Internship if I have not participated in TIDES?No, you must participate in TIDES in order to be considered for the Apprenticeship/Internship.
I still have questions. Who can I reach out to?
