Event Details

Apologies, this event has already taken place.

Event Information

We’ve got the equipment (kayaks, vests, helmets, paddles), you bring the body, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship (shorts/sandals, too). Your level of experience doesn’t matter.

We are limited to 15 participants per game, so reserve your spot for the game at 11 am. We’ll put you in a team and give you a vest number on a first-come first-served basis. Dedicated players and volunteers, though, will end up being teachers to others.

We focus on individual attention and kayak mentoring, and offer the best free kayak learning experience you can get in NYC. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before game time to be donned with vest, helmet, paddle, and kayak.

More about Kayak Polo

What is kayak polo? It’s a mix of basketball, water polo, and kayaking and a whole lot of fun! Every Sunday afternoon in the summer, the Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse, in association with Brooklyn Kayak Guides and the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy, hosts kayak polo games off of the East River. These games are open to the public and totally free! Your level of experience doesn’t matter, and nothing will improve your kayaking skills as quickly as playing this game.

Sunday kayak polo games are divided into three sessions:
11:00 am - 12:00 pm: The first session is a Meet-Up Group Session Sign-Up Via MeetUp Here
12:30 pm - 1:30 pm: Walk-up Kid’s and Adult Session - Kid’s get preference (must be aged 11 and up)
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm: Walk-up Adult Session

Here’s some important information to remember before coming down to play:
- Each game is limited to 10 public participants. If any game isn’t filled up, we can take additional participants on a first come, first served basis.
- Please arrive at least 20 minutes before your game for a quick tutorial (just in case if you need one!).
- We provide kayaks, paddles, life vests, and helmets. Please wear something you’re comfortable getting wet.
