About The Class by Taryn Toomey

The Class is a music driven practice where we exercise the body to engage the mind.  Through physical conditioning, we “work out” mental and emotional behaviors to create new tools for experiencing life.

Through a series of repetitive simple cardio and strength-based exercises, students are invited to witness their response to whatever arises during the movement. This can be anything from physical discomfort to unexpressed emotions leading the participants through a journey of engaging with the body as a lever to the mind. More often than not, the same internal dialogue that shows up during The Class is also showing up off the mat.

It is a wringing out, literally and figuratively, of the body, mind, and soul.

Remember to bring a mat if you have one (a limited number of mats are available first come first served - with valid ID).

Teacher Bios

LAURA: Thursday, September 12, 7:00PM - 8:00PM

Laura was introduced to the healing effects of mind-body practice while on an intensive yoga retreat in Brazil during a transitional time in her life. Upon returning, she found her way into The Class and was instantly hooked. She completed her teacher training in 2016 and hasn’t looked back since. Laura’s grounded spirit coupled with a Master’s in Social Work and years of experience in supporting and counseling women allows her to create a safe and supportive space for students to feel what they need to feel, to move in the ways they need to move, and to find freedom in expressing themselves without judgement or apology. Her Classes create unique openings for each student to trust the strength and wisdom of their own hearts and intuition. Laura regularly teaches in NYC and supports the Teacher Training Program as Manager of Teacher Training.

NATALIE: Wednesday, June 12, 7:00PM - 8:00PM

Natalie’s background includes a BFA in performance from NYU with years of multi-disciplinary movement training including Suzuki, Viewpoints, Grotowski and Committed Impulse. Her classes are athletic, vigorous, empowering, and suffused with her natural effervescence. She brings her students face-to-face with their own personal challenges; together, they sweat, they dig deep, and they come out energized — discovering how strong they are, mentally and physically.

COURTNEY: Wednesday, July 10, 7:00PM - 8:00 PM

From the start, Courtney’s life has been fueled by movement. Her classical ballet training began at age three and continued with prestigious schools that led a professional career across the United States. Her deep passion and dedication to that practice guided her to where she is today : personally and professionally. Courtney’s empowering, high-energy Classes are created with the intention to give students space to explore and discover themselves, without any type of judgment. She asks students to meet themselves exactly as they are and do the work from there. She gives her students full permission to realize their full potential and bring that feeling with them off the mat.

EMILY: Wednesday, August 14, 7:00 PM-8:00 PM

Emily’s classes are physically challenging, energetically powerful and simultaneously nurturing. Her warm personality encourages the room to feel safe and grounded while working the rooms energetic gears in order to access their fire and strength during times of doubt, exhaustion, panic and uncertainty. She encourages the room to take an honest look inward in order to awaken the power that resides within, while also giving them permission to meet themselves with compassion along the way.
