Expert instructors and local dance legends teach you how to move, highlighting distinct dance styles that have important roots here in NYC. Get moving with free all-levels dance classes under the Brooklyn Bridge at Emily Warren Roebling Plaza!
On Saturday, 9/16 join for Hustle led by Jeff Selby! New Style Hustle, founded by Jeff Selby in 2010, is based on the original partner dance of the 1970’s, The Hustle. Originally developed in the Bronx by the young Puerto Rican community, The Hustle has its roots in Mambo and Salsa. It takes hustle and allows freedom and variation of footwork with rhythmic changes that connect to today’s music. New Style Hustle calls for personalization and brings with it all kinds of street styles. Though it is usually done to house music, it now reaches a variety of genres like R&B, disco, hip hop and more!
Each night starts off with a 45-minute all-levels introductory class, which will transition into a dance party. All are welcome, regardless of skill level.

Jeff Selby of NYC is the creator of New Style Hustle. Based on the original partner dance of the 1970’s, the hustle, New Style Hustle allows freedom and variation of footwork and style as well as rhythm changes connecting with todays music and generation.
After years of developing a new twist on the classic dance, Jeff and his original partner Nicole Mercado, became legends in the NYC club scene. Soon the demand for New Style Hustle became too great to keep to themselves. New Style Hustle was founded as a movement by Jeff and his current partner Robyn Baltzer in 2011. Jeff and Robyn have taught workshops and have performed across the country and around the world. Communities around the world have been formed by locals to continue, share, and spread New Style Hustle. The dance has been featured on The Late Show with David Letterman, NBC Channel 4 News, TED Talks, Lincoln Center with Chic, YAK Films and most recently will be featured on an upcoming Netflix Series called The Get Down, directed by Baz Luhrmann, to name a few!
From your living room, to the club, to some of the worlds biggest stages, New Style Hustle can be learned and shared among dancers of any age, style or level. The basics are simple, yet the sky is the limit for those who want to take it further. The most important element of New Style Hustle is being yourself and having fun!
