2010 Public Art Installation

Face to Face by Debra Hampton

In November 2010, a new public art installation was unveiled along Furman Street. The Urban Art Program, sponsored by the New York City Department of Transportation, group that brings lively and unexpected temporary art to otherwise gloomy streetscapes, chose Debra Hampton to design a mural on the barriers alongside the bike lane on Furman Street. A team of volunteers from New York Cares helped install the mural, titled Face to Face, using 40 reusable stencils and vibrant colored paint. Debra Hampton’s design was a unique way to invigorate the streets of Brooklyn and add an element of surprise to everyday structures.
