Main Street Section of the Park Temporarily Closed
Earlier today we announced the temporary closure of the small section of the Park directly below the Manhattan Bridge. As a result of isolated incidents of materials falling from the bridge, we believe that this temporary closure is prudent out of an abundance of caution.
The area is bordered by Plymouth Street and the East River, and includes a dog run, climbing wall, and park paths. In order to limit the length of closure, we will begin construction of a temporary overhead structure (scaffolding). We anticipate this work will be completed in April, at which point this portion of the park will be reopened.
Over the coming months, Brooklyn Bridge Park will be working with our partners in government to design a long-term solution for this area that both fully protects the public while also meeting the design aesthetic we all have come to know and love in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
I thank you all for your support and patience as we work to provide a world-class park on the Brooklyn waterfront. Please feel free to contact us with any questions, and stay tuned for more information.
