Privacy Policy

Brooklyn Bridge Park (BBP) and the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy (Conservancy) strongly believe in protecting the integrity and privacy of personal information gathered from our members and visitors to our web site (“End Users”). Since the protection of your privacy is of the greatest importance to us, we have created this privacy policy to communicate our practices regarding the collection and dissemination of personal information that can be linked to a specific individual, such as a name, address, phone number, email address, or any other information, provided to us by our members and web site visitors.

You do not have to share personally identifiable information to use this web site. BBP and the Conservancy do not collect personally identifiable information about people on our web site without their permission. However, please be aware that our web site links to a limited number of other web sites and we cannot control and is not responsible for the content or the privacy policies of those web sites.

1. Our privacy policy explains the information practices we use at brooklynbridgepark.org related to:

  • How we collect and use the information gathered when you become a member of the Conservancy or use one of our online services.
  • How you receive emails and email newsletters from BBP and the Conservancy
  • Children’s privacy
  • How we share information
  • How we protect your information
  • How to unsubscribe from mailing lists
  • How to contact us about privacy

2. How we collect and use the information gathered when you become a member of the Conservancy or use one of our online services:

BBP and the Conservancy gather contact information when you when you sign up for our email updates, or when you otherwise provide personal information on our web site.  The Conservancy gathers contact information when you contribute to the Conservancy online or via mail. BBP gathers contact information when you apply for a permit, which BBP uses to issue and administer permits, and to contact such individuals in connection with their application. BBP and the Conservancy use this information to contact you and send you park updates and promotions, press releases, information about public programs, events and activities and volunteer opportunities. Additionally, the Conservancy uses this information to send you donation, membership, and renewal appeals.

BBP and the Conservancy may also collect information from public sources, third party companies, or other organizations that we may combine with information from other sources.

Our website automatically collects non-personally identifiable aggregate information, which may include visitors’ browsers, operating systems, Internet Service Providers, and other similar information. The information collected is used for statistical purposes to monitor how users navigate our website, allowing us to tailor our website to better accommodate users.

3. How you receive emails and email newsletters from BBP and the Conservancy:

You will only receive email newsletters from us if you have a) expressly signed up to receive emails from BBP and the Conservancy through brooklynbridgepark.org, b) taken action on behalf of BBP or the Conservancy either online or in person; c) signed up to receive emails at park events; or (d) become a Conservancy member. In order to provide you with better and more relevant information, we compile information about email response and website usage. This information helps us to better understand our users’ web site usage patterns and also what types of content and information may help improve your user experience on the web site. All emails sent contain a link to unsubscribe or to modify your profile. You may subscribe or unsubscribe to any newsletter or email communication from BBP and the Conservancy at any time.

4. Children’s Privacy

This Web site is directed toward and designed for use by persons aged 13 or older. BBP and the Conservancy will not approve applications of, or establish or maintain accounts or memberships for, any child whom we know to be under the age of 13 without parental consent. BBP and the Conservancy do not solicit or knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. BBP and the Conservancy encourage parents and legal guardians to monitor their children’s internet usage and help enforce this privacy policy by instructing children to never provide personal data to us without their permission. If you are under the age of 13, please do not submit any personal information to us, and rely on a parent or guardian to assist you. If BBP and the Conservancy nevertheless discover that they have received personally identifiable information from an individual who is under the age of 13, BBP and the Conservancy will delete such information from its systems. Additionally, a child’s parent or legal guardian may request that the child’s information be corrected or deleted by contacting us at info@brooklynbridgepark.org.

5. How we share information:

BBP and the Conservancy never share email addresses and telephone numbers gathered from subscribers with other organizations or parties. We may share mailing addresses with organizations or parties we consider to be supportive of our respective missions.

The Conservancy follows the Association of Fundraising Professional’s (AFP) Ethical Guidelines to the Code of Ethical Principles and Standards of Professional Practice. Occasionally, the Conservancy does exchange or rent mail lists to like-minded organizations through bonded third-party vendors. From time to time, the Conservancy may partner with for-profit companies to provide you with special offers available to members, such as discounts.  These organizations are never given direct access to the Conservancy’s membership database.

Should you not wish your information to be shared with other organizations, or to receive offers for member benefits, you may opt out at any time by contacting us at the Conservancy’s Member Services Department mailing address below, or by emailing us at membership@brooklynbridgepark.org.

BBP and the Conservancy also may be required to release information if required to do so by law or if, in our sole discretion, such disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with legal process or to protect the rights, property, or personal safety of our web site, BBP, the Conservancy, our officers, directors, employees, members, other users, and/or the public.

6. How we protect your information:

BBP and the Conservancy are extremely protective of the information gathered through our website and membership program. Our website has security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of the information under our control. All donor and membership databases containing personal information are securely stored and only accessed by authorized Conservancy personnel.

When you contribute to the Conservancy online, we use a secure server and encryption to protect your financial and other personal information during transmission.

7. Cookies:

Our website uses cookies (small files that store information on your computer’s web browser) to enhance user experience on the website. Cookies are used to perform certain functions such as saving passwords, personal interests and preferences; delivering content specific to these interests and preferences; and analyzing website activity and user behavior on the website. Most internet web browsers may be customized to reject cookies, to only accept or reject cookies by user intervention, or to delete cookies. However, this may lead to loss of functionality on those website pages requiring cookies to function fully.

8. How to unsubscribe from mailing lists:

All BBP and Conservancy communication, whether via email or US mail, provides information on how to unsubscribe quickly and easily. Those wishing to opt out of receiving all communications (“do not contact”), or from being included in list exchanges with like-minded organizations (“do not exchange”) or from receiving special offers for Conservancy members from third party companies (“do not offer”) can simply contact us at info@brooklynbridgepark.org or via phone 718-802-0603, or via US mail at 334 Furman Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201.

10. How to contact us about privacy:

If you have any questions about our privacy policy, the information we have collected from you online, the practices of this site or your interaction with this web site, send email to: info@brooklynbridgepark.org.

11. Changes to this Privacy Policy

BBP and the Conservancy may modify or supplement this policy at any time, and reserve the right to do so without notice.
