Timber seating and climbing platforms in the playground are made from reclaimed Long Leaf Yellow pine that was extracted from demolished warehouses on the park site.

Pier 1 is the only pier that is built on landfill rather than on pile-supported structure, which allows for unlimited weight restrictions and the creation of large hills.

On Pier 1, approximately 18,000 cubic yards of manufactured soil was used for the landscape. Beneath this soil lies 40,000 cubic yards of clean bulk fill, salvaged from Long Island Railroad drilling operations for the East Side Access project.

Pier 1 is 9.5 acres, the largest of the park piers.

More than 5 million people visit the Park each year.

Over 500 trees are planted on Pier 1.

37 nautical bollards were savaged and reused in the Pier 3 Labyrinth.

The monarch butterfly is one of the most frequent visitors to the Pier 6 Flower Field. Seen the most often here in late August while on their great annual migration.
