This month, the Environmental Education Center activities and displays are focused on sustainability! We hear that word used often, but what does sustainability mean exactly?

Being sustainable means meeting the needs of the present, without jeopardizing future generations. In other words, finding a way to preserve and protect the earth for years to come.

Just in time for Earth Day, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the many ways we can conserve resources and be good environmental stewards.

Swing by during our public open hours to discover and explore everything our newest theme has to offer. Get creative using recycled materials to make a craft; or test your recycling knowledge by completing our recycling sorting challenge! Sign our Earth Day Promise Wall by writing one thing you will do to help the environment.

Have you ever wondered how electricity is made? Stop by the energy table to tinker with mini solar panels, windmills, and hand cranks to create renewable energy.

Did you know Brooklyn Bridge Park was designed with sustainability in mind? Pull open a drawer in the Ed Center’s Discovery Station to learn a little more about the Park’s reuse of building materials and restoration of salt marsh habitat.

Visitors are welcome to the Ed Center every Tuesday and Thursday, 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm.

Be sure to join us on Saturday, April 22 for a special open hours celebrating Earth Day! Throughout the afternoon there will be special activities, including an opportunity to plant a seed in a take-home pot!
