Emma Straub, Rumaan Alam, Eowyn Ivey and more captivate audiences beneath the Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy (Conservancy) is pleased to announce the full lineup for its fourth annual Books Beneath the Bridge series sponsored by AT&T. This summer’s literary series, which features free outdoor readings curated by local, independent bookstores, begins July 11 at 7 pm and will run for six consecutive Mondays at Pier 1’s Granite Prospect. This weekly program will feature a Poetry Salon and readings by several critically acclaimed authors, including Emma Straub and Rebecca Schiff, all framed by views of the sunset against the New York skyline. This event is free and open to the public.

“Now in its fourth year, Books Beneath the Bridge has established itself as one of our most loved series of the summer season,” said Nancy Webster, Executive Director of Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy. “Books Beneath the Bridge continues to delight Brooklyn Bridge Park visitors thanks to our local, independent bookstore partners that curate such lively and creative content year after year. We are also grateful to AT&T for making this event possible for a fourth year.”

“Each summer, Books Beneath the Bridge brings together thousands of New Yorkers and visitors from around the world for a night filled with literature and fun for all families,” said Marissa Shorenstein, New York State President, AT&T. “AT&T is proud of our continued partnership with the Conservancy on this annual series, and support of local authors and bookstores throughout the city.”

“Books Beneath the Bridge is tailor-made for Pier 1’s Granite Prospect,” said Regina Myer, President of Brooklyn Bridge Park. “We are thrilled to see such an impressive lineup for this year’s series and look forward to hearing from each of these incredible writers.”

“Greenlight is excited to take part in one of our favorite Brooklyn summer traditions with Books Beneath the Bridge again,” stated Jessica Stockton Bagnulo of Greenlight Bookstore. “We’re bringing dynamic poets to the Park with this year’s collaboration with poetry collective The Conversation. Nothing will make you love this city more than listening to powerful words and voices from across the nation, with the Brooklyn Bridge as the backdrop!”

“Bridges have brought folks together for hundreds if not thousands of years — if you consider a land bridge as something to b(e)ring people together — but with Books Beneath the Bridge, there’s a great new way of bringing folks together with a bridge!” declared The powerhouse Arena. “Needless to say, powerHouse Arena is overjoyed to be involved with the Books Beneath the Bridge series and its all-star lineup of authors. Believe us, it’s not beneath you to get beneath the bridge.”

“Books Beneath the Bridge is one of the most idyllic reading series in the city, and this year we’re thrilled to host two of our favorite Brooklyn authors—Idra Novey and Rebecca Schiff—to show off the exciting new fiction that’s coming out of the borough,” stated Hal Hlavinka of Community Bookstore.

“Emma Straub is one of our favorite authors and closest friends and we’ve enjoyed watching every second of her ascent as a bestselling author,” said Christine Onorati, owner of WORD Bookstores. “We are so thrilled to host Emma in her home borough in conversation with Rumaan for what should be an exciting night under the Brooklyn Bridge.”

Participating bookstores are charged with curating their respective evenings by selecting authors of their choice. In addition to hearing renowned authors read from their latest work, guests will have the opportunity to ask questions during a Q&A, purchase books and meet the authors during a book signing following the reading.
