The youth kayak program at Brooklyn Bridge Park is designed to introduce participants ages 11-18 to kayaking. Experienced staff members teach participants basic skills for “sit-on-top” kayaking within the safe embayment of Piers 1 and 2.

Groups must consist of at least 15 participants, with no more than 30. We provide all equipment. No more than 15 participants are allowed on the water at any given time. Those waiting to get in a kayak on land will have time to enjoy the park and utilize the courts on Pier 2.

The program runs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 am - 3 pm from June 1 to August 7, 2020. Sessions are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is open now, you may register at the link at the bottom of this page.

The cost for a full day program is $300 plus a booking fee. A limited number of fee waivers are available to Title 1 schools and camps/summer programs that qualify. We limit one waiver per school/organization and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. To inquire if you qualify for a fee waiver, please email the Kayaking Department at

The easiest and preferred way to book a class with the Conservancy is to pay online when you register at the link below. In the event that your organization is unable to pay electronically, please email the Kayaking Department at

Safety: All participants are required to wear a life vest during the on-water period, no exceptions. Participants must follow the directions of the instructor and staff. Participants who don’t follow instructions will be required to remain on land.

Ability: Participants must be able to hear and understand instructions and communicate with the program instructor and staff, enter, exit and sit in a kayak without assistance, hold and move a kayak paddle, hold their breath under water and keep their head above water while wearing a life vest.

Waiver: All participants must have a signed waiver before they can go out in a kayak. The group supervisor must affirm that all the waivers are accurate and complete when delivering them to the on-site coordinator; that he or she has full authority to make decisions on behalf of the youth group; and that the youth group has obtained all public and/or private permissions necessary to participate.

Cancellation: We teach rain or shine and only cancel in cases of high winds, thunder, lightning or other adverse conditions as determined by our staff. We will be in close contact if adverse conditions are predicted. If we deem it necessary to cancel, groups will receive a full refund.

If a group that has registered cancels with less than 24 hours notice, we will not issue a refund or, for groups that used a fee waiver, charge the original program price ($300 for a full day). In the event of cancellation with less than a 7-day notice, we will issue a partial refund ($150) or charge a partial fee for groups that used a fee waiver ($100). Failure to complete payment of a cancellation fee may result in a loss of eligibility for future programs.
