What to See at Pier 3 Greenway Terrace

About Pier 3 Greenway Terrace

Framed by panoramic views of the New York Harbor and skyline, and featuring salvaged granite blocks that emerge from planted areas, the Pier 3 Greenway Terrace completes the continuous promenade that runs along the water’s edge from Pier 1 to Pier 6. Admire the scenery from shady seating nooks beneath the Metasequoia trees or savor the stillness from the lawn cascading down the terrace to the south.

The sweeping Granite Terrace provides a unique gathering spot with spectacular views of the New York Harbor. The terrace includes stacked granite blocks that rise 4 to 5 feet and include plantings of flowering trees and evergreens to provide a shady seating area. The granite was salvaged from work on the Roosevelt Island and Willis Avenue Bridges. Included in this area is the sound attenuating hill that separates this stretch of park from Furman Street and the noisy Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. This hill runs along the entire length of the Pier 3 Greenway Terrace and reduces noise pollution in the park up to 75 percent.

The Pier 3 Greenway Terrace also features two lawns that provide breathtaking views of the harbor. Glade Lawn sits just south of the Granite Terrace and provides direct views of Governors Island and the Statue of Liberty. A smaller lawn northwest of the terrace sits along the water’s edge and is sloped to provide great views of the skyline.
